In June 2026, NUWEBIZ Foundation took another significant step toward transforming the lives of women entrepreneurs in Uganda by successfully conducting high-level stakeholder engagements in Moroto District, Karamoja Region, under the Generating Growth Opportunities and Productivity for Women Enterprises (GROW) Project β an initiative of the Government of Uganda through the Ministry of Gender, Labour and Social Development, with support from the World Bank.
For many women in Karamoja, entrepreneurship is more than a source of income β it is a pathway to dignity, resilience, and hope. Yet countless women continue to face barriers such as limited access to markets, financial services, business skills, and decision-making platforms. Recognising these realities, the NUWEBIZ Foundation team worked closely with district leadership to lay the institutional foundation needed for sustainable economic transformation.
A key milestone of the mission was the formal engagement with the Chief Administrative Officer (CAO) and the Moroto District Administration, establishing a strong collaborative partnership that will facilitate smooth coordination, effective implementation, and long-term sustainability of GROW Project activities throughout the district.
The engagement also brought together district officials, development stakeholders, and women entrepreneurs from across Moroto District, resulting in the successful establishment of the Women’s Entrepreneurs Platform (WEP) and the democratic election of its leadership. More than just a committee, the platform represents a united voice for women entrepreneurs β a structured network through which they can access business development services, financial opportunities, mentorship, market linkages, policy advocacy, and peer support.
Behind every woman who attended the engagement is a powerful story: a mother striving to educate her children, a young entrepreneur determined to build a better future, a refugee rebuilding her livelihood, or a small business owner seeking opportunities to expand beyond subsistence. By organising these women into a strong and inclusive platform, NUWEBIZ Foundation is helping turn individual struggles into collective strength and lasting economic opportunity.
As women-led enterprises grow, entire districts benefit through increased economic participation, reduced poverty, improved social wellbeing, and stronger local economies β this is how sustainable development begins, from the grassroots upward.
